APPARATUS FOR CULTURING MICROORGANISM

PURPOSE:To culture microorganisms on a get medium by homogeneously impregnating a fibrous water-absorbing sheet with a specimen liquid and forming a gel medium by the water-absorption and gelatinization of a gelling agent soluble in cold water. CONSTITUTION:A surface of a water-proofing flat plate 2 is coated with a mixture of a gelling agent soluble in cold water and a culture base for microorganism and the coated surface is covered with a fibrous water-absorbing sheet 4. When a specimen liquid containing microorganisms is pipetted on the water-absorption sheet 4, the specimen is homogeneously diffused throughout the fibrous water-absorption sheet 4 by the capillary phenomenon caused by the contacting fibers. Subsequently, the mixture 3 of the gelling agent and the culture base applied to the flat plate 2 is gelatinized by water-absorption to form a gel medium containing the fibers of the fibrous water-absorbing sheet 4 in closely contacting state. Microorganisms can be cultured on the gel medium.
