PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound, composed of a peptide having a specific molecular structure, capable of manifesting high surface activity, having high biodegradability and useful as a strong detergent, for tertiary recovery of petroleum, etc., by culturing a bacterium of the genus Arthrobacter and recovering the resultant product. CONSTITUTION:Soil near a Sagara oil field in Japan is suspended i sterile water and an agar culture medium precoated with the oil produced therefrom is further coated with the resultant suspension to carry out the culturing at 28-37 deg.C for 2 days to 1 week. An appearing colony is then collected to isolate a bacterium which belongs to the genus Arthrobacter and is capable of producing a biosurfactant [e.g. Arthrobacter.sp. No. 38 strain (FERM P-13198)]. The isolated bacterium is then inoculated into a culture medium and cultured at 30 deg.C for 24hr. The culture supernatant is subsequently separated and concentrated with an ultrafiltration membrane and 50mM CaCl2 and 10mM hydrochloric acid are then added thereto to form a precipitate, which is subsequently recovered and purified by a silica gel column, etc., to afford the objective new compound, expressed by the formula and having high surface activity. |
