The present invention provides a cyclic amide compound of formula (I): wherein R<1> is a phenyl group which may be substituted, R<2> is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl groupe which may be substituted by a halogen atom, and R<3> is (a) which may be substituted, (b) which may be substituted, (c) which may be substituted, (d) which may be substituted, (e) which may be substituted, (f) which may be substituted, or (g) which may be substituted, wherein D is an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or -N(R<4>)-, wherein R<4> is an alkyl group, a process for producing such a compound, a herbicidal composition containing such a compound as an active ingredient, a herbicidal method and an intermediate for the production of such a compound. The cyclic amide compound of the present invention is useful as a herbicidally active ingredient to selectively kill weeds without presenting a phytotoxicity against crop plants. |
