In an egg tray comprising a number of upstanding posts (10) in the form of upwardly converging truncated pyramids, the apical surfaces of which constitute abutment surfaces for a further egg tray stacked on top of the tray, said posts being mutually spaced in rows extending in the longitudinal and transversal directions of the tray, said posts further having side walls (18), together with other walls, i.e. intermediate walls (20) situated between the posts, constituting limiting walls for rows (12, 14) of upwardly open egg-receiving pockets between the rows of posts, the new feature is that, above the lowermost situated wall parts (18a, 20a) constituting the lateral limits for the lowermost part of a pocket, the side walls (18) of the posts (10) and the intermediate walls (20) situated between the posts together form a circumferentially continuous egg-supporting belt (22), the cross-sectional shape of which is curved outwardly in a concave manner relative to said lateral limits, from which belt (22) the posts (10) and intermediate walls (20) continue upwardly. With this arrangement, the egg-supporting belts (22) at the same time provide a larger supporting surface for the eggs than previously. |
