The cutting jet (2), of e.g. mixed water and abrasives (3,4), issues from a high-pressure nozzle (1). To prevent it, after cutting the workpiece e.g. the flange (5) of a turbine disk (6,7) from damaging other parts, a horizontally rotating steel disk (8), with a turned-up edge (12), is interposed. This has a protective coating (8b) of e.g. tungsten carbide. Adjustably mounted, on an offset parallel axis, on the tool framework (10), it is driven at speeds up to 12,000 rpm by an air-motor (9), via a belt or other drive.The interceptor is a cylindrical bar, driven on an axis coplanar and orthogonal w.r.t. the jet. A protecting shroud also serves to recover the fluid for recycling.
