The cooling system has a condenser which is traversed by a cooling fluid that emerges from the engine in vapour and/or liquid phase, and returns to the engine as a liquid. The cooling system also has a circulation pump (15) for the cooling liquid, an expansion vessel (23) for the liquid and a motor-driven fan associated with the condenser.The circulation pump is electrically driven through a series resistor (42) that can be bridged by a contact (45) in response to the magnitude of a variable associated with the load on the engine, ensuring that the pump has higher delivery when the engine is more heavily loaded.
