Displacement measurement system for shock absorber cushioning stroke

The system has two components movable wrt. each other and associated measurement electronics. A displacement element, esp. a piston and rod, moves reciprocally in a cylinder closed at one end and through a seal in the other end. One system component is fixed wrt. the cylinder and the other wrt. the piston.The ultrasonic displacement measurement system has a permanent magnet (22) as one component and a magnetostrictive wave conductor (26) as the other. The magnet is mounted on the cylinder (10) close to the piston (15). The wave conductor is arranged along an axial bore (16b) in the non-magnetic piston and is connected to the measurement electronics.
