Strengthening for self-supporting chassis for vehicle

The vehicle chassis has side frames (3, 4) to support the passenger compartment, with a stepped section (6) to lead to raised front and rear sections whose longitudinal frame members (8, 9) are set inwards and higher than the outer frame members (3). These sections support the engine compartment and rear boot. The chassis is strengthened by a flat plate (12) bolted under the front and/or rear sections. One end of the plate is bolted to the side frame members (23) and the other end to a support frame (14).The support frame has a V-profile and runs from the longitudinal members to a support plate (12) bolted to the flat plate. An intermediate support plate can be fitted to spread the stress. The upper ends of the support frame have mounting plates (28) to link to the chassis. The support frame is made of tubular section or is part of the chassis.
