Polygonal support chambers (5a-5d) are formed by support sections (3) and attached shaped sections (4) set next to each other. The walls (6,6') of the chambers have openings (8,8') in which to object to be packed can fit. The chambers may be rectangular or triangular. The openings may lead from the plane of the support sections and may be set in a regular pattern. The chambers may have a uniform cross section over the whole length.
