Evacuated solar storage collector

The solar collector has a stainless steel pipe section with unions at the ends for cold water inlet and hot water outlet. Surrounding this is a jacket made of transparent plastic and the space between them is evacuated. One end plate of the jacket can be removed. There is a sensor in the intervening space to ensure that the pump can create a vacuum of less than ten thousand Pascals. Commercially available and exchangeable seals are used for the unions. The unions are not coaxial so that relative movement between jacket and steel pipe is prevented.
