The scooter has a standing support surface (25), a front steered wheel and a rear drive wheel. The tread plate (1) is hinged on the support surface and is linked to the rear wheel via a flexible drive element (2) and a return spring (7). A freewheel clutch provides the drive and allows the drive element to return for the next stroke.For a tricycle scooter, the two rear wheels are each driven by a tread plate with a separate transmission. The steering is by raised handlebars (23) controlling the front wheel.
