The parallel forceps are joined together at their base, forming a gap between them accommodating the loose-fitting thread. The forceps jaws can be opened and shut independently of each other, so as to allow both gripping of a thread end and also their alternate opening without releasing it.The instrument is also useable as a needle holder for stitching.
