Determining gas traces in air using gas ionisation detector

A definite change in the concn. of the gas trace in a gas flow is produced and the flow is fed to a gas ionization detection arrangement. The variation in the ionization current is recorded as a function of time during the conc. variation and a measure for identifying the substance or group of substances is derived. Finally, the amplitude of the ionization saturation current is recorded and used to derive the concn. by normalising the gradient of the ionization current to the value of the saturation current.
