Electrode (I) for producing H2S/sulphide standard solns. (II) by cathodic redn. in a diaphragm cell, esp. for calibration and test of analytical systems, consists of a mixt. of HgS and/or PbS, S and C powder.Pref. (I) contains 0.2-1.5 mole HgS or HgS+PbS or 0.3-1.6 mole PbS, 8-15 mole S and 2.5 mole C powder. H2S standard soln. (IIA) are prepd. by using an acid electrolyte as carrier soln. and sulphide standard solns. by adding alkaline buffer soln. to (IIA). Spent (I) is regenerated by heating in a Hg bath or pulverised to recover the starting material.
