The invention relates to a method of connecting optical waveguides (optical fibres) by means of integrated optical components (IOCs) which is characterised by the combination of the following features: a) provision of the areas intended for bonding with polycondensates based on hydrolytically condensed compounds of silicon and optionally other elements from the group consisting of B, Al, P, Sn, Pb, the transition metals, the lanthanides and the actinides and containing organic groups, these polycondensates being known per se, as connection material, b) insertion of the optical waveguide, c) curing of the polycondensate by irradiation (UV or IR radiation) and/or thermal energy.
