Multiple beam output scanning is obtained from a single raster scanning system (ROS) (50) having a rotating mirror (10) and a single set of scan optics (18). A plurality of coaxially overlapping laser beams (54,56) from a common spatial location have either different polarization states or wavelengths. The swept beams (54,56) are then separated by a plurality of optical beam splitters (70,76) and absorption type optical polarizers and optical filters (74,78). The separated laser beams (58,64) may be directed onto associated photoreceptors (90,82). The photoreceptors (90,82) are beneficially located such that the optical path lengths from the laser beam sources to each photoreceptors (90,82) are substantially the same.

|
