Making race rings for rolling bearings

In a method of manufacturing a rolling hearing race ring, the metal flows are aligned with the shape of the race surface to enhance durability. A cylindrical steel billet including a large number of metal flows (2) formed in the axial direction thereof is upset by first upper and lower moulds to form recesses in the upper and lower plane portions of the billet. The recesses are then pressed equally by second upper and lower moulds (9a and 9b) to thereby form a centrally pressed portion. The inner part of the portion is removed to produce a ring shaped workpiece, and finally the workpiece is rolled and shaved to produce a pair of inner race rings (17, 18). Outer race rings can be produced by a similar method. The rings are suitable for ball or spherical roller bearings.
