A wear component (20) comprising a base surface and a synthetic diamond film disposed on said surface is provided. The diamond film has a thickness of at least 20 mu m and an equivalent strain of at least 0.08 percent. Furthermore, a method of making said wear component is provided as well as a method for producing synthetic diamond for use as a wear surface and a method of investigating synthetic diamond to be utilized as a wear surface. <IMAGE>
