PURPOSE:To prevent crash due to lag in the issue of alarm by issuing a danger signal based on the sum of idling distance of a vehicle and a value obtained by dividing the square of the speed of vehicle relative to an obstacle present in front of the vehicle by the deceleration value of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION:An operating circuit 41A operates according to a formula; R=Vf.Talpha+(Vf-Va)<2>/2a, where Vf; speed of vehicle (m/s), Talpha; response delay time of driver(s), Va; brake deceleration of the vehicle (m/s<2>), R; distance between an obstacle and the vehicle (m). In other words, brake distance is determined by dividing the square of relative speed by a predetermined deceleration. This detector delivers an alarm 4 appropriately to a driver depending on the running conditioned on highway or the like thus preventing crash.
