PURPOSE: To improve image contrast by absorbing incident radiocative rays without secondary discharge so as to make the cladding exposing part of the tip part of an array nearly translucent. CONSTITUTION: A waveguide array in the shape of an optical fiber surface plate 20 consists of plural optical waveguides with the core 21 of a glass phase and cladding glass 22. The incident radiocative rays toward the cladding glass 22 are absorbed without generating secondary discharge to make an exposing surface 24 nearly translucent with respect to the incident radiocative rays. Desirably, the cladding glass 22 includes reductive cations such as lead, bismuth, arsenic, tin or their mixture. Then, an opaque surface layer 23 is selectively formed by exposure to a reducing condition on the external exposed surface 24 of the cladding glass 22. Thereby incident light 28 hitting a layer 23 covering the cladding glass 22 is absorbed and is prevented from entering the cladding glass 22. Consequently, substantially very small amount of crosstalk to the fiber is removed from the fiber. |
