The Christmas tree has its trunk replaced by a supple sheath (3) which can be folded up or stiffened by a removable rod (4). The branches are made in rigid material and radiate from a central ring. These form part of the trunk and the sheath and rod pass through their central holes. The sheath can be stiffened by a fluid and the variation of pressure of this allows the trunk to be folded or extended. The fluid, or a gel, can be stiffened or liquified by changes in temp. A telescopic stiffener can replace the sheath.
