PURPOSE:To provide method/device for generating a stereoscopic model by which highly precise surface loop data can easily be obtained in short time from a wire frame model without the necessity of the experience of an operator. CONSTITUTION:An edge selection circuit 46 selects edges tracing a moving point for respective links based on link point data generated from start/end point data of the edge, an outermost line which is set and the selection reference of the edge stored in an edge selection reference storage circuit 44. When the moving point reaches the outer edge, an inside/outside judging circuit 48 judges whether a locus which the moving point traces is within the wire frame model or not. When it is within the desired wire frame model, the wire frame model is divided with the locus as a division line. Thus, a surface loop in a minimum unit can easily and speedily be obtained from the wire frame model by repeating the division.
