PURPOSE:To provide a process for production of volume phase type hologram which is excellent in chemical stability and environmental resistance characteristic and is excellent in wide photosensitive wavelength region characteristic, having high sensitivity, high diffraction efficiency, high transparency and excellent sensitivity characteristic. CONSTITUTION:This process for production of the volume phase type hologram has a first stage for exposing a hologram recording medium consisting of a high-polymer compd. which is a single polymer of (meth)acrylate or a copolymer of >=2 components of the (meth)acrylate and vinyl monomer (A), a compd. having at least >=1 pieces of polymerizable ethylenic unsatd. bonds (B), a merocyanine deriv. (C) and diaryl iodonium salt (D) to interference patterns of radiations, a second stage for treating the recording medium with a solvent which removes the unpolymerized material from the recording medium and swells the high-polymer compd. in the recording medium and a third stage for bringing the recording medium into contact with a solvent having poor solubility and swellability to the high-polymer compd.
