METHOD FOR CONTROLLING SOUND IMAGE LOCALIZATION

PURPOSE:To correctly perform approximatation processing HRTE without impairing a sound image localization feeling by setting a coefficient obtained by performing a scaling processing at convolvers and reproducing an output obtained from a sound source from a pair of transducers. CONSTITUTION:The head part transfer characteristic from speakers SP1 and SP2 to the right and left ears of a listener and the head part transfer characteristic when the speakers SP1 and 2 are actually arranged at an objective localization are measured and calculated. The coefficient convolvers cfLX of a cancel filter are calculated based on the measured transfer characteristics. A prescribed attenuation is given to the coefficient so as to set into the pair of convolvers. The characteristics calculated by a prescribed expression as the transfer characteristics cfLX and cfRX in the required localization position X and prepaired as ROM data and a fixed image is realized at the localization position X by one time FIR filter processing. Then, a signal which is convolution- processed by the cancel filter to which a same sound source is supplied is reproduced so that HRTE is correctly and approximately processed without damaging the sound image localization feeling.
