PURPOSE:To reduce the thickness of a device and to improve the brightness of a display surface by providing a reflection plate in such a manner that the rays emitted to the opposite side of a light transmission plate among the rays from a light source are reflected in an outer direction from the width of the light source and are then reflected toward the light transmission plate. CONSTITUTION:This surface light source has the light source 1, a liquid crystal panel 4 and the reflection plate 2 for introducing the rays emitted from the light source 1 to the end of the liquid crystal panel 4. The reflection surfaces of the reflection plate 2 are constituted of three surfaces; A-E, E-F, F-G. The light emitted from the light source 1, such as cold cathode ray tube, etc., is reflected by the reflection surface A-B, arrives at the reflection surface A'-B', is further reflected by the reflection surface A'-B' and is introduced to the front of the light source 1 without being shut off by the light source 1. Other light is reflected by a curved surface shaped reflection surface F-G or introduced to the front of the light source 1. The rays heading toward the outer side of the light transmission plate 3 among the rays introduced to the front of the light source 1 are reflected by the reflection surface F-G and are made incident on the light transmission plate 3. As a result, the collimated beams of light are easily obtd. and the rate of utilizing the light source light is enhanced. |
