PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal element improved in the orientation characteristic of liquid crystal molecules and gradation characteristics. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal element is constituted by clamping a ferroelectric smectic liquid crystal 15 between substrates 11a and 11b having transparent electrodes 12a, 12b and providing ion conductive thin films 13a, 13b and org. conductive oriented films 14a, 14b on these substrates. As a result, a large tilt angle is generated and a high contrast is obtd. The generation of after-image development is obviated. Further, gently changing transmission characteristics are obtd. The gradation thus can be adjusted. |
