PURPOSE:To surely recover an error without limiting the other jobs by suppressing using ratio of a main storage area in the dynamic device relocation with respect to a method and a device for error recovery of a subsystem using a magnetic tape device where a host computer executes the dynamic device relocation for the device error which occurs on the way of data writing in the magnetic tape device. CONSTITUTION:The function of dynamic device relocation (DDR) is realized by a save means 80, a tape movement indicating means 82, and a rewrite means 84 of a higher-order device 10. If an error occurs, the save means 80 compresses expanded unwritten data transferred from an input/output controller 30 when writing it in a main storage save area 86. The rewrite means 84 expands compressed unwritten data read out from the main storage save area 86 when transferring it to a magnetic tape device 32 as the tape movement destination. it is sufficient if the save area 86 whose size corresponds to compressed unwritten data left in a buffer 62, is secured in a main storage area 38. |
