The sander has an endless belt formed of supports covered with layers of abrasive material. The belt has three zones (41-43) which each have different abrasive material on them. The zones each extend all along the belt and across part of it. They are adjacent to each other and are joined along common longitudinal lines (24,25). Each zone is on a separate support and they are joined together by longitudinal strips (31,32) which are bonded to their lower surfaces. The ends of the supports are bonded together to form a transversal joint (33).
