The current supplied to the load (10) is measured by an operational amplifier (62) associated with a set (70) of input switches (72, 74, 76, 78) operated by a signal representing the direction of current in the measuring resistance (20).The output of the op.amp. is compared (30) with a desired current setting. The direction of load current is detected by another op. amp. (82) producing a signal (SL) and its inverse (84) for combinatorial logic (90) which drives a clocked D flip-flop (40).
