Bitumen coated steel strands are coated with a silicone oil sepn. agent immediately after the sticky mass of bitumen is applied to wet the bitumen on all sides.The appts. used for coating the bitumen-coated steel strands comprises an enclosing material of felt, foam or fibre continuously supplied with oil from a reservoir through which the bitumen coated steel bands are drawn.
