The recording and reproduction appts. has a shift mechanism for detecting acceleration due to vibrations or disturbances affecting the appts.. A signal generated by the acceleration sensor is used by a control device (ST) to compensate for vibrations or disturbances.The shift mechanism shifts the position of the pick-up element (P) of the appts. wrt the recording medium (CD). A focus coil is used to counteract the effect of external disturbances during the focus search or tracking process.
