<p>A machine for reducing the size of vegetation to wood chips is provided in which vegetation is introduced to the machine via a roller (13, 18) and conveyor (14) arrangement and is reduced in size to wood chips by a rotating drum (30) is provided with a plurality of pivotable cutting units (80) each having a cutting blade (92) for severing wood chips from the vegetation. The cutting units are pivotally mounted so as to be capable of being retracted or swung away when the cutting units contact a foreign object during operation of the machine so as to prevent or reduce the damage to the cutting unit or machine. After the wood chips are cut from the vegetation they are discharged through a discharge chute (26).</p> |
