In an oxidn. catalyst (I) contg. a gp. IIIB-VB element or a sub-gp. element, including lanthanides, or cpd. of one of these elements as catalytic component (II), (II) is in the form of fine grains, which are (partly) encapsulated in amorphous SiO2 (III) and attached to the surface of a particulate or moulded inorganic support (IV) by means of an inorganic binder (V) and/or by hydrothermal bonding.(II) Is MnO2, PbO2 or Ag, pref. with a particle size of 2-20, esp. 2-10 microns. (IV) Consists of ceramic granules; or a moulded ceramic filter, to which (II) is bonded hydrothermally.
