A benzomorphan compound, represented by general formula (I), useful as an NMDA receptor antagonist, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutical composition comprising the same; wherein R represents -CR1R2R3, hydroxy, C1-C4 alkoxy or -NR4R5; R1, R2 and R3 represent each independently hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkenyl, C1-C4 alkynyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl, C4-C9 cycloalkylalkyl or a 3- to 6- membered cyclic ether group, provided that the case where at least two of R1, R2 and R3 represent each hydrogen at the same time is excepted; R4 and R5 represent each independently hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl; R6 and R7 represent each independently hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl; and R8 represents hydrogen,C1-C4 alkyl, hydroxy, C1-C4 alkoxy or halogen. |
