<p>An overvoltage protecting device (1) for high voltage has a porcelain housing (2) with protective screens (3, 4, 7, 8). Protective screens (3) with a larger diameter may alternate with those (3) with a smaller diameter in the central region along the longitudinal axis of the device (1). At its ends, the device (1) has blow-out apertures (5) from which gas under high pressure can pass in the event of a short-circuit current.
