A folding backrest or backrest region for motor vehicle seats has a bearing pin (6) and a bearing aperture (4) taking said pin (6), which thus together form a pivot (5). There is a spring (7) holding the bearing pin (6) against the bearing aperture (4). Unlike the prior art design, the bearing aperture (4) is out of round and the bearing pin (6) has supporting surfaces (6a and 6b) on an out of round outer contour. The cross-section of the bearing pin (6) only partly fills the cross-section of the bearing aperture (4). The position of the pivot (5) can be altered along a predetermined length of travel when the backrest (2) or backrest region is folded, whereas with the prior art round bearing designs it always had a fixed position. |
