The cover surface (18) of the winding bar (10) has a number of gas outlet points (20), which from a gas feed chamber (16) inside the bar are fed with a gas, pref. air, for prodn. of an aerostatic gas cushion between the cover surface (18) and the winding medium. The outlet volume flow and/or the outlet pressure of the air from the gas outlet points is adjustable over the length extent of the winding bar, so that the aerostatic gas cushion has the same thickness over the length extent of the winding bar.The winding bar (10) has a thrust bar concentrically enclosed by a gas feed chamber (16), and a concentrically enclosing cover (12), provided with the gas outlet points (20).
