The present invention is directed to amorphous olefin polymers and their preparation using cationic polymerization and the functionalization and derivatization of such polymers. The invention includes a polymer composition comprising amorphous polymer derived from a monomer having the formula H2C CHR; and optionally at least one monomer of the formula R<1>HC CHR<2>; or H<2>C CR<2>R<3>, wherein R is a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon having from 2 to 22 carbon atoms, and R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are the same or different hydrocarbons or substituted hydrocarbons having 1 to 22 carbon atoms. R is preferably an ethyl group (-CH2-CH3) and R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are preferably methyl groups (-CH3).
