An illuminable pointer instrument (10) is proposed which is intended especially for use in motor vehicles. The pointer instrument (10) has a light-conducting plate (11) used as scale carrier, which is to be illuminated by a first light source (26) arranged at its external circumferential area (25). On the underside (19), facing away from the observer, of the light-conducting plate (11), at least one rib-like, light-conducting element (28) is moulded on which is illuminated by a second light source (35) arranged at the external circumferential area (25) and guides light into the illuminable pointer (20). Due to the design of the at least one light-conducting element (28), a measuring mechanism (18) belonging to the pointer instrument (10) can be provided with a shaft (17) which carries the pointer (20) and which is as short as desired.
