The effective tube length of at least one of the two tube parts (5,6) is variable by a position member (7) in relation to one or more of the prevailing operating parameters. The adjustment is effected by telescopic tube sections (7,8) and the operating parameter may be engine rotational speed or vehicle road speed.The second tube section (6) is controlled by a control and regulating device (10).
