Apparatus for de-icing an aircraft comprises infrared radiation emitters (6, 7, 8) connected to members (3, 4 and 5) of a structure through which the aircraft passes. Detectors (10) detect the position of the aircraft and a thermal imaging system comprising cameras (11) provides an assessment of de-icing quality.
