PURPOSE:To provide the subject copolymer synthesized by copolymerization of a specified ratio of a vinylidene fluoride-containing monomer and an unsaturated dibasic acid monoester, excellent in chemical resistance and useful as a base material of a binder, an adhesive, a coating material, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer is synthesized by copolymerization of 100 pts.wt. monomer containing 80wt.% vinylidene fluoride and 0.1 to 3 pts.wt. unsaturated dibasic acid monoester (preferably maleic acid monoester or citraconic acid monomethyl ester). In addition, the amount of another monomer copolymerizable with vinylidene fluoride is preferably 20wt.% based on the total amount of vinylidene fluoride and the other monomer.
