PURPOSE: To deploy an air bag without injury to a passenger or damage of the air bag by a method wherein hinge parts of strips attached to the wall and cover of an enclosure respectively overlap on edge part and function as hinges so as to expend from the overlapping relation to an open position when the air bag is inflated. CONSTITUTION: A pair of hinges 66 made from strong and flexible woven scrim material composed of plastic fibers are provided on an air bag container 10. The respective hinges 66 include 1st hinge portions 66a attached to the lower panel 64 or upper panel 62 of the front wall 34 of a front cover member 32. The hinge portions 66a are provided behind the front wall of a reinforcement element 46. Also, the hinges 66 include 2nd hinge portions 66b attached to reinforcement tape and are attached to the upper and lower walls 38 and 40 of the front cover member 32. Further, a pair of folded webs or hinge parts 66c and 66d are piled on the 1st portions 66a. As a result, panels 62 and 64, etc., can not be dangerous discharged objects. |
