PURPOSE: To assure the safety of passengers by stopping an elevator car when a relief valve senses that a fluid pressure in a pump exceeds a pre-set fluid pressure limit, with a pump fluid pressure ported so that a pressure discharge is presented to a hydraulic elevator system. CONSTITUTION: A hydraulic elevator pressure relief valve 19 is activated if a pilot valve 124 disposed therein senses an excessive pressure build up within a hydraulic elevator system 10. The pilot valve 124 opens once an excess fluid pressure force is detected. A main piston 140 then facilitates communication between a solenoid valve 40 disposed within the valving system and the drain pressure thereby closing a check valve 18 and thus stopping an elevator car 12 from further movement. The main piston 140 further ports the excess fluid pressure force from the system to drain pressure, thus stabilizing the fluid pressure force therein. |
