<p>PURPOSE:To carry out elimination speedily without deteriorating emission perfor mance by preventing a temperature drop in exhaust gas purifying catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Adsorbent to adsorb HC in exhaust gas is interposed in a bypass passage arranged by bypassing an exhaust gas main passage. When exgaust gas purifying catalyst is activated and elimination becomes OK (S3), prior to eliminating operation of the adsorbent, an electric current is supplied to a heater, and an adsorbent temperature is raised (S4), and a temperature drop in catalyst related to elimination is prevented, and unburnt gas is eliminated gradually to the exhaust gas purifying catalyst (S7).</p> |
