PURPOSE:To provide a production method of a sintered compact of silicon nitride, capable of producing a sintered compact having excellent physical properties regardless of kinds of raw material powder of silicon nitride without using a dispersion medium producing harmful mist, etc., in a blending and a grinding processes of raw material. CONSTITUTION:A composition comprising raw material powder of silicon nitride and a sintering auxiliary is mixed with water as a dispersion medium to prepare a slurry. The prepared slurry is blended and ground by a wet method in a state of the temperature of the slurry maintained at 2-60 deg.C and the obtained mixture is granulated, compacted and then sintered. Preferably the slurry is adjusted to pH<=12 and to <=1,000cps viscosity and the surface of the raw material powder is previously provided with an oxidized coating film having given thickness. |
