PURPOSE:To obtain powerful opening/closing operating force and secure sufficient opening/closing strokes. CONSTITUTION:A sliding door opening/closing device for a vehicle is provided with the stator 1 of a linear motor provided horizontally in a sliding door S, and a movable element 2 connected to the tip of an arm 6, protruding from a vehicle body, movably within its length in the horizontal direction so as to move relatively along the stator 1. The sliding door opening/closing device is also provided with engaging members 3A, 3B provided at both moving direction end parts 21, 22 on the movable element 2 so as to be engaged alternatively with the tip of the arm 6; an engagement release rod 4 operated to release the engagement between the tip of the arm 6 and the engaging member 3A or 3B positioned on the far side from the stator end part 11 or 12 when the movable element 2 reaches the end part 11 or 12 of the stator 1; and a control device for moving the movable element 2 in the reverse direction after moving the movable element in the normal direction and making the movable element reach the stator end part 11 or 12, then engaging the engaging member 3A or 3B, positioned on the closer side to the stator end part 11 or 12, with the tip of the arm 6 and moving the movable element 2 again in the normal direction. |
