An amidoalkanolamine composition having the formula: wherein R is a monovalent aliphatic radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; R' is a hydrocarbyl radical having 8 to 30 carbon atoms; R'' represents methyl or a mixture of hydrogen and methyl radicals; and x is 5 to 50, can be added to fuel compositions to reduce deposits on the intake valve and combustion chamber of an i.c. engine. The amidoalkanolamine composition can be produced by reacting a 4-substituted-2-morpholinone having the formula: with a hydrocarbyloxypolyoxyalkylene amine having the formula: wherein R, R', R'' and x have the meanings given above.
