PURPOSE:To obtain a hair cosmetic having a good feeling in use, providing hair, especially hard hair with durable softness, having excellent dressing performance of hair. CONSTITUTION:A hair cosmetic contains (A) 3-20wt.% alpha-hydroxymonocarboxylic acid of the formula (R<1> is H or 1-4C alkyl) or its salt such as glycolic acid or lactic acid and (B) 0.1-30wt.%, especially 1-15wt.% aromatic alcohol of formula II (R<2> is H, methyl or methoxy; X is single bond, 1-3C straight-chain or branched-chain alkylene or alkenylene; Y is O or OH; (p) and (q) are 0-5) preferably 2-benzyloxyethanol. The cosmetic is further blended with 0.1-40wt.% surfactant to improve effect more and to better touch such as smoothness. Addition of 0.01-30wt.% fats and oils also improves touch.
