COLLAGEN FIBER HAVING EXCELLENT WATER-RESISTANCE

PURPOSE:To obtain an absolutely colorless collagen fiber having excellent water resistance by incorporating a regenerated collagen fiber with a specific amount of an aluminum salt. CONSTITUTION:Split cowhide is used as a raw material, solubilized by alkali solubilization or enzymatic solubilization method, dissolved in an acidic aqueous solution and spun to obtain regenerated collagen fiber. The obtained regenerated collagen fiber swollen 4-15 times with water is immersed in an aqueous solution (pH 2.5-5) of an aluminum salt (preferably basic aluminum chloride or basic aluminum sulfate) to include 8-20wt.% (in terms of aluminum oxide) of the aluminum salt in the fiber. The collagen fiber produced by this process is absolutely colorless and has excellent water-resistance compared with a collagen fiber produced by conventional process.
